Would love to start a discussion on how you manage your Continuing Education credits on your courses -
We were very surprised that the Courses in TI did not have a “credit” field as a default - as our assumption was that almost all forms of online training would award some sort of credits/points. So with a suggestion from our implementation team, we started out by using “claim your award” at the end of each course - this did not go well, as many of our learners “missed” the Claim Your Award button, and became a customer support issue. It seemed that if the learner had met the completion criteria, they should just be awarded their credits & certificate.
Our next solution was to create a custom content field for “credits awarded” and have added that field as a certificate field that shows up on the certificate & transcript. This way the credits are managed inside each course, not in the gamification Award section. (We don’t track our learner’s credits, just award them for them to submit to their certifying bodies.) When the learner meets the completion criteria for that course, their certificate now has a field indicating the number of credits (& CPD & CEUs) they have earned. Works well and consistent - fairly easy to manage & maintain.
What we cannot figure out is how to award partial credit if necessary - we hold ILTs (workshops) that are typically 2 day events. The attendees will earn X number of credits for attending and participating in both days. Every once in a while, we have an attendee that for some reason was only able to attend 1 day, so we would like to be able to award them partial credit with a certificate. We could do this outside of TI, but it really would be nice for them to have this on the Learner Dashboard with the rest of their course completions from us. Any ideas for how we could solve that?
