Character limit for custom content field values?

For custom content field values, is the character limit 255, or do I have outdated information?

I did a test and I could add Custom Content Field value of 500.

While it saves fine, and reports fine, the view on the catalog is not optimal.

If you need to have over 255 characters I would do some thorough testing to ensure there are no negative impacts that I have not observed.

Thanks so much @jonsynnott ! In my case, I don’t want that to show in the catalog anyway, it’s just going to be an internal reporting field.
