Ability to back date events / VILT in TI UI

The inability to create sessions in the past in the TI UI makes it difficult for us to create or update sessions. This limitation can lead to incomplete data and an inaccurate record keeping of our data.

Hi @Bree Groves

This is a really interesting question. Could you share more details about this use case, why you want to create sessions in the past and what problem doing this solves for Mongo? It would be great to have an example or two if possible.

Appreciate your insights!

Hi @jeannehurtz,

The primary use case for creating sessions in the past is operational accuracy and data integrity.

In practice, there are scenarios where a session has already occurred but could not be created in the TI UI at the time (for example, due to timing, process gaps, or system limitations). When we are unable to backdate sessions, we lose the ability to accurately reflect what actually happened. This results in incomplete records, misaligned reporting, and manual workarounds that reduce confidence in the data.

Being able to create or update sessions retroactively allows us to:

  • Ensure historical training data is complete and accurate

  • Correct gaps when sessions were delivered but not recorded in real time

  • Maintain reliable reporting for audits, tracking, and downstream analysis

Without this capability, our system of record does not fully reflect reality, which ultimately impacts data quality and trust in the platform.
