Hello-

Anyone out there that uses SCORM Connect files for customers? We have a couple of customers that we supply SCORM Connect course files to that use them in their company LMS. My question is about certificates - can a SCORM Connect user receive our Thought Industries completion certificate if they don’t have access to their Ti dashboard?

Thanks!

We use it, but our customers just keep everything on their side and create their own certificates based on what we send them.

@LisaRollins

Hi Lisa! Thanks for answering both of our questions today!

Do you “collect learner details” with your SCORM connect files? If so, does that mean that they could get a certificate emailed to them upon completion? (I’m pulling 2 different support/community questions together here!)

Thanks!

--Julie

We don’t collect their details as we ran into more issue with that with customer’s LMS’s. When we would try to turn it on, the SCORM usually didn’t work right for them on their end...usually because of security on their side. So, we just send them the basic packages and let them track it.

We don’t have a lot of customers who want SCORM and hopefully even less once we get SSO set up .

ooh, I want to hear more about that. I’m not convinced that SCORM Connect is all that we thought it would be, so I’d be interested in what you’re doing with SSO instead - if you’re willing to share!

Well, our goal is to set all our users up with an easy entry into our instance so that they don’t need to use SCORM in their systems. Right now, they choose SCORM so their users don’t have to create yet another login. Once we get SSO set up, users will be able to hop to our instance straight from our products without another login….and we can just send customers a report of what their users are doing versus them having to track.

But, we will still have a few large customers with their own LMS who want all that “in house”, so sending it over works. We appreciate the “connect” part to make sure that the courses are updated and not have to send new files every time we update something.

Hi @LisaRollins 👋🏼,

We’re working with SCORM in TI for the first time and I’m not sure how to release the content. Here are the details.

  • Our finance team created a course that they want to export from TI and embed in KnowB4
  • This is considered internal content so we have not hit release, to prevent from having it show up in our public catalog
  • The SCORM export we used is SCORM 2004
  • We were able to load a released course into KnowB4
  • I suspect I may be using SCORM Connect incorrectly for the end goal
  • We are getting the error message you see below
  • Error Message: Unable to Load Unreleased Course into KnowB4

I see a message on the TI SCORM download page that says:

Please note that SCORM Connect files should not be downloaded until your site has launched

They will stop working upon the finalization of your custom domain. If you need to download your SCORM Connect files prior to launch, please contact your Customer or Onboarding Success Manager.  Tagging @coap

@dlasa That is odd. We don’t release any of our content that we use with SCORM Connect, so not sure where that error is coming from.

I’d put in a support ticket and see what they suggest.

@dlasa - I would suggest trying to open your file in SCORM Cloud to test it. That way you will know if it’s your external LMS or a file issue. That’s always where I start when testing issues with SCORM Connect customers/needs/files.

Wow, that was quick, Thank you @LisaRollins and @juliefiretech. Will try these steps.

@juliefiretech I didn’t hear you say that you created a Pano for SCORM connect or a sublicence for the group that you are giving the SCORM to.  If you haven’t then that is a missing step and SCORM cloud isn’t going to know to look for that.  When you want to create the SCORM file you go to the content list for that Pano and pick the sub from the dropdown, then export.  The documentation seems to leave some steps out.  If you are trying to SCORM connect a SCORM then you are making a SCORM sandwich and there is lots of room for error.  It can work but be cautious and test. Hope this helps.

@charles.zimmerman  did you mean to tag @dlasa instead of me?

(my original certificate question was from a year ago & we’ve figured that out by now)

Hi @charles.zimmerman, thank you for suggesting that we create a Pano for SCORM Connect and a sublicense for the group we’re giving the scorm content to. This was the step we were missing.

We followed these steps and were able to load the content in the platform.

Big thank you to you, @juliefiretech and @LisaRollins for the help here. It’s great to turn to the community and to the TI team and get so much support.

Thank you! 🙌🏼

@dlasa I am so glad that I could help.  Congratulations!
