Hiding a Course in the Catalog

We have a supplemental course that we offer for our learners. However, this is not a stand-alone course, as there is a larger course that should be taken prior to it. Currently, the larger course is offered alone or both are sold together as a learning path. However, for those who buy only the larger course, we would like to add a promotional page to the course that refers them to the supplemental course if they need more practice. The supplemental course is published but not released, so it will appear in the learning path but not the catalog. In order to add a catalog link to the promotional page for easy purchase, is there a way to release the supplemental course, but not have it visible in the catalog (only accessible through the link)? I’m aware of the Prerequisite Content option on the Enrollment tab, but is that the only option?

We use tags for this scenario. Items are tagged as “HideFromCatalog” and then a filter applied to the catalog via Design to hide items.

This might help: https://support.thoughtindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360046307253-Writing-a-Search-Query

The tag works perfectly, but @Christopher.Hernley how are you accessing the catalog/checkout link for the hidden course to share it with potential learners?

@madelinefiretech glad to hear it - we do not use the check out process for any of our content and share these hidden items via direct link in email etc with our panorama managers.

We do use the checkout functionality and also use tags for this as a workaround, but in the opposite way.

All content we display in our public catalog has a tag to indicate as such (i.e., PCD = Public Catalog Display) and all other content has other tags that indicate which catalog it might go to (because we have customized catalogs on many different pages for many uses, such as certifications, etc.

Then we use the query option in all catalog widgets to display the catalogs we want based on the tags - so our public catalog calls in the PCD tag, the private catalogs call in their respective tags, and anything without one of those tags isn’t going to display in that catalog.  So because of this we can release content, then go to the direct URL of the course (which you can usually get the content link from the release tab, and then just change /learn/course/course name with /courses/course name. If that doesn’t work (because sometimes it doesn’t) I just wait until after business hours and then add the PCD tag, grab the URL, and then remove the tag so that it’s only up there for a split second.

Hope this helps!
