Localize SCORM??

Hi, is anyone localizing their SCORMs? We’re at the beginning of our localization journey. We’re evaluating translation management systems (Transifex and Localize). So far we’ve successfully exported a SCORM XLIFF → translated it → imported the XLIFF to Storyline → published a new SCORM (meaning we’ll have 1 SCORM per language). But we don’t know how to “tell” Thought Industries or the TMS which language SCORM to serve.

 

Note: we author Ti courses with multiple SCORMs, so we don’t want to go the route of having a language selector at the beginning of every SCORM since then the learner would need to select multiple times per course (unless there’s a way to avoid that…?)

I checked in with our resident SCORM experts and there isn’t a way for TI to do this because we don’t have all the different versions of the SCORM. XLIFF is a unique SCORM course or page for TI so the system can’t say complete 1 of the translated courses for credit. Rather this is done in your zip folder. If your SCORM authoring tool supports it, you can combine all languages into a single SCORM package using a multi-SCO setup. This allows the learner to choose their language inside one file, while still reporting one completion. 

I understand we have an open conversation with our tech team regarding localization so I’ll add this as a line item for continued discussion.

Would you be able to tell me this: Do assets in the CAM/Asset Library have unique URLs?

Where I’m going with this is...I’m wondering if we could leverage the CAM to store our SCORMs (1 per language). If each has an obtainable URL, would it be possible inside the course to point to that URL and have it launch and function properly as a SCORM? If we can treat it like a URL, then that URL becomes a “translateable” string where we can say “If English, use URL www.ti/scorm/english; if Arabic use www.ti/scorm/arabic” so we would be able to serve the appropriate language SCORM.

 

I’ll also still leave my initial question open to the community: given the limitation Jeanne mentioned with SCORMs, what are folks doing for their SCORM localization to work around it?
